HC DrugFree’s Executive Director Joan Webb Scornaienchi has been selected to serve a three-year term on the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse (NACDA).
The NACDA advises the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), one of the institutes within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Council provides guidance on NIDA’s research priorities and reviews scientific research related to drug use, misuse, addiction, prevention, and treatment. Through this role, the Council also advises the Director of the NIH and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on matters related to NIDA’s mission.
Serving on the NACDA is a significant honor and responsibility. Council members have the unique opportunity to help shape the future of federally funded research on drug use and addiction by reviewing research initiatives, providing expert guidance, and helping ensure that NIDA supports the highest-quality scientific research.
Ms. Scornaienchi has collaborated with NIDA staff on numerous initiatives throughout her seventeen-year tenure leading HC DrugFree. She is honored to contribute to the Council’s important work and looks forward to helping advance evidence-based research that strengthens prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts nationwide.
HC DrugFree congratulates Ms. Scornaienchi on this well-deserved appointment and is proud to have its leadership represented at the national level in helping guide the future of drug abuse research and prevention.
