Congratulations to Joan Webb Scornaienchi for Receiving the MLK, Jr. Holiday Commission's Living the Dream Award

The Howard County Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission selected Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director of HC DrugFree, as the Individual Honoree for the Living the Dream Award for her many personal and professional contributions to the community.

Judge William V. Tucker, HC DrugFree's Board Emeritus and Associate Judge for the Howard County Circuit Court and County Executive Allan Kittleman joined Joan on the stage as she received the award.

HC DrugFree Executive Director Receives National Award

Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director of HC DrugFree, received the 2014 Impact Award in the Private Sector from the National Grants Management Association (NGMA). The annual grants conference was held in Arlington, Virginia, and attended by more than 420 individuals from across the country. A total of 4 awards were presented at the luncheon ceremony; Joan was joined by award winners from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs, and Kearney & Company. Joan received her grants experience while employed at the Maryland State Department of Education and later became a Certified Grant Management Specialist (CGMS).

Athena Kan Wins Governor's Service Award

Congratulations to Athena Kan, HC DrugFree Teen Advisory Council member and River Hill High School junior on being awarded the Governor's Service Award for her outstanding service to the community.

325 Parents Entered HC DrugFree Contest for $100 Stanford Grill Gift Card

HC DrugFree held its third annual drawing for the parents of teens that attended Howard County High School PTSA sponsored After Proms instead of hosting private parties with alcohol or other drugs. Judge William V. Tucker selected Howard High School parent Donald Way, father of Zachary Way, from the 325 entries while HC DrugFree's Executive Director Joan Webb Scornaienchi (left) and Board of Education member Ellen Flynn Giles witnessed the drawing. Mr. Way won a $100 gift card to Stanford Grill. Congratulations to Mr. Way and thank you to all parents who chose to support After Proms. We would like to extend a special thanks to Stanford Grill for increasing the gift card from $50 to $100.

HC DrugFree "Senior Week" Program

HoCo FilmFest 2nd Place Winner HC DrugFree Category

HoCo FilmFest 1st Place Winner HC DrugFree Category

HC DrugFree is proud to announce the 1st place winner of the HC DrugFree category of the 2013 HoCo FilmFest. Timothy Chen, a sophomore at River Hill High School was awarded a $100 Visa gift card and first place with his film Choices.

HC DrugFree partners with HoCo FilmFest

HC DrugFree and HoCo FilmFest invited teens to create Public Service Announcements focusing on combating underage drinking or alcohol-related accidents involving youth. Films were due March 1, 2013 and winners were announced March 22.

HC DrugFree Receives Howard County Joint Proclamation

During the County Council legislative session, the Howard County Council presented HC DrugFree with a Joint Proclamation from the County Executive and the County Council declaring March 2012 as HC DrugFree's Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Awareness Month.
