A Howard County teen (18 years old) and HC DrugFree Teen Advisory Council member was once again able to purchase alcohol during a Howard County Police Department test of County liquor stores. He also contacted adults coming in and out of a Columbia liquor store and was able to get two of those adults to purchase alcohol for him. As the Howard County Alcohol Coalition’s strategic plan to lower the incidence of underage drinking in the county begins its second season of extra police patrols at targeted Merriweather Post Pavilion events, coalition leadership met to review the strategic plan and discuss the upcoming media campaign that will support the strategy. HC DrugFree held a Town Hall Meeting to discuss changing the environment of underage drinking in Howard County. Joining Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director of HC DrugFree, on the panel were The Honorable William V. Tucker, Judge, Howard County Circuit Court; Chief William McMahon, Howard County Police Department; Dr. Kevin Seaman, Medical Director, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services; James LeMon, Principal, Wilde Lake High School; Farah Evans, Pupil Personnel Worker, Howard County Public Schools; and Rachel Ingley, a recent graduate of a Howard County Public School. Introductory remarks were made by State Delegate Liz Bobo.
Underage drinking is an issue that affects us all. You cannot effect change if you do not make yourself heard.
